Fair Trade: Kickin’ It!

What is made of eco-certified rubber, filled with air and involves no child labor? If you said Fair Trade sports balls you are way too smart. Seattle-based Fair Trade Sports manufactures fair trade certified and eco-certified sports balls for soccer, football, basketball, rugby, and volleyball. Founded in the fall of 2006 by Scott James, a former Microsoft marketing manager, the company donates 100% of its after-tax profits to various children’s charities.

Made with eco-certified rubber from forests in Sri Lanka and India that are Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) Certified, each ball has also been marked Fair Trade Certified (TM). As the company grows, James hopes to “create a better synthetic outer shell, moving further away from petroleum-based components, use organic cotton for the stitching and internal batting, and use vegetable dyes for the exterior graphics.”

In addition to food, flowers, and body-care, kick up your use of fair trade goods by heading over to Fair Trade Sports and purchasing your own ball.
